Duration: Half day Description

Our cycling trip around the Hoi An countryside is a fantastic way to discover this stunning local landscape and experience the daily life of farmers around the ancient town of Hoi An.

Pack your own picnic breakfast to enjoy on our early morning boat cruise, watching the first rays of the day dance over the river. Then hop on a bike to spend half the day visiting the tranquil vegetable village, meeting the farmers and learning how to plant seasonal produce, irrigate the land and sample the freshest herbs bursting with goodness!

Itinerary:

At 06.30 our guide welcomes you at your hotel and takes you to the boat pier to start your trip to the countryside of Hoi An. The early morning sunrise provides a spectacular backdrop. Enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the river whilst eating your own packed breakfast, watching the daily activities of the Cam Chau Fishermen. We’ll pass through the thickly lush Bay Mau coconut forest, shadowed by the large green fronds overhanging the riverbank. There’ll also be the opportunity to visit and admire the revolutionary base of Hoi An in the past.

Leaving this beautiful area with its heroic history, we’ll continue our trip to the Tra Que Vegetable Village. On arrival, expect a warm welcome and refresh with a special drink – ‘E’ water or local tea. Then it’s time to dress in traditional farming clothes and conical hat, before taking the short tour around the meticulously planted plots, where local farmers work using only the traditional methods and without the use of any electrical machinery. Under the instruction of the household you’ll be shown how to prepare and fertilize the land, using green ‘manure’ harvested from the riverbed, before growing the vast array of vegetables. Watering the newly sown vegetables is the last task in the planting procedure.

We’ll then return to the house to be pampered with a wonderful foot treatment…soaking our feet in fragrant Vietnamese herbs before having a pleasurable foot massage. This is one of the best ways to refresh ourselves after our time in the garden. A light lunch with delicious local dishes (fruit or spring rolls) is then served in the gorgeously tranquil garden. At 12.30 pm, we’ll ride our bikes the 4km back to Hoi An town, passing through roads verged with green bamboo hedges, vegetable gardens and large rice paddies. This is another picturesque route, discovering more of the hidden charms throughout the Hoi An countryside. Your guide will happily share all his local knowledge throughout the day too, stopping to give you the perfect picture opportunities…so don’t forget your camera!
